History

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an old and aristocratic breed with origins in the 16th and 17th centuries. The dainty toy spaniels were cherished by European monarchs, particularly in England, where they usually travelled with kings and queens in their palaces. The breed is named after King Charles I and King Charles II, who doted on their little, friendly companions.

In the Victorian period, the breed was bred with other small dogs, which produced a shorter-nosed variety. Breeders in the early 20th century, though, made an effort to get back to the original look of the spaniels, producing the contemporary Cavalier King Charles Spaniel—a breed that keeps its graceful appearance, friendly personality, and steadfast loyalty to owners.

Today, the Cavalier is one of the most beloved companion dogs, famous for their kind hearts, playful nature, and loving personality. In the court of royalty or in a warm home, these lovable dogs continue to bring warmth, joy, and companionship to their owners all around the globe!
