History
The Poodle is an ancient and highly recognizable breed of dog, with a history that stretches back many centuries. Contrary to popular belief, the breed actually has its origins in Germany, where it was developed as a water retriever to assist hunters in bringing back ducks. The name “Poodle” is derived from the German term “Pudel” , which means “to splash in water.”
As time passed, the breed became popular in France, where it was perfected and became the national dog of the country. The Standard Poodle was later bred down to Toy and Miniature sizes, which were perfect for companionship. Their intelligence and elegant looks made them a favorite among European royalty, who sat them in royal courts.
Modern Poodles are cherished throughout the world for their beauty, brains, and adaptability. As accomplished performers, working canines, or loving family companions, they remain one of the most highly regarded and sought-after breeds.
